TINGHA is a beautiful, light and airy custom built catamaran, she is packed with innovative ideas and storage solutions that make her very easy to live aboard.
Tingha is a unique 38ft x 18.5ft one off build by Raymond Moedlehammer (Germany). Her construction is a composite build – marine ply/epoxy hulls sheathed with glass epoxy inside and out, with foam core topsides so that she can never sink and crash compartments bow and stern. She has copper coated hulls below the waterline and painted hulls, superstructure and topsides (2017).
Tingha is built to cruise the world with simplistic systems; hand pump and foot pump for fresh water; retractable outboard engines (easily removed if one needs attention); manual anchor windlass; solar panels (on deck and aft) and a 200W wind turbine for power independence. Tingha has a simple cutter rig sail-plan which makes sail handling easy with two headsails on roller furling units and a square topped mainsail. Her steering system is made up from light weight Dyneema and is routed from the wheel steering to the tie bar at the stern, she has a belt driven autopilot.
The unique thing about Tingha is her hulls, she has no keels and works on the asymetric hull principle of one curved side, one straight side (one hull being the inverse of the other). When the starboard hull pulls one way the port hull pulls the opposite way thus negating the need for stub keels and enabling her to hold a steady course. Tingha is capable of sailing at speeds of 20knots and cruises happily at 10knots in the right wind and sea conditions. Whilst delivering Tingha to Cartagena she was fully laden and still cruising at 10-12knots with a max speed of 15.4knots.
She has 3 Solar panels giving 290watts in total but can easily carry more panels on deck if required. The aft panel and frame is only 12months old. The wind turbine is a 200watt Air Breeze (serviced Nov 2017 with new cable and bushes). Her solar panels feed two independent controllers so she has built-in redundancy should a panel become damaged.
Her mainsail (designed and made by Baluma Sails) was new in Oct 2017 – a square topped sail with 5 battens to give performance, dropping into a brand new stack pack (Oct 2017). Both headsail UV strips have been restitched (Oct 2017). Her spinnaker is a symetric spinnaker in a sock and is in VGC.
She comes with a 3mtr inflatable-V dinghy with a 2.5HP mercury O/B carried on stainless steel davits which also support the windgen, solar panel and radar & gps antenna.
Her main anchor is a 20kg stainless steel German Bugle anchor which provides excellent holding with 35mtrs of 8mm galvanised anchor chain (2018) and 35mtrs of 20mm octoplaid warp (Dec 2017). Her second anchor is a Delta 20kg. The windlass on Tingha is a Lofrans Tigress manual.
Domestic batteries: 4 x deep cycle AGM 110ah were all replaced in Oct 2017 (charged by mains charger, solar panels and windgen)
Engine batteries: 2 x 65ah starter batteries (charged by mains charger and engine alternators)
ST60+ Speed/Log (2011)
ST60+ Wind direction/ Speed (2011)
ST60+ Depth (2011)
Raymarine C80 Radar/Chartplotter (2011)
Autohelm ST3000 autopilot (2011)
Raymarine Ray101E handheld VHF radio

Her outboard engines are very reliable 9.9hp Yamaha long shafts that are retractable by a simple pulley system when sailing. The engines had new props fitted in Dec 2017. Capable of powering Tingha along at 8knots (both engines) or 6knots (1 engine).
She has 3 double cabins, a huge saloon area, galley alongside in the starboard hull and the heads in the starboard bow.
