HULL
28′ 6″ LONG, 6’6″ BEAM, BASED ON STEVE BAKER’S RACE BOAT HULL DESIGN
USED FOR “BRUT” AND “O.C.L. SUZUKI” WHICH ACHIEVED CONSIDERABLE SUC-
CESS IN THE 80’S, INCLUDING THIRD OVERALL IN THE ROUND BRITAIN RACE.
THIS IS THE ONLY HULL THAT WAS FINISHED OFF AS A FULL CRUISER, WITH A
REVISED DECK MOULDING GIVING INCREASED HEADROOM BELOW, AND MOUNTING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE SPRAY-DEFLECTING WINDSCREEN. HULL IS WHITE WITH LIGHT
BLUE TOPSIDE AND DECK STRIPES AND MATCHING UPHOLSTERY.
LAYOUT IS AS FOLLOWS:-
THE FOREPEAK IS OCCUPIED BY A CLOSED COMPARTMENT THAT CAN BE FILLED
WITH SEA WATER TO ACT AS A BALLAST TANK. NEXT AFT FROM THERE IS A
COMPARTMENT THAT IS USEFUL FOR SOFT STOWAGE OF SLEEPING BAGS, LIFE-
JACKETS AND CLOTHING. THIS COMPARTMENT IS DIVIDED FROM THE MAIN CABIN
BY A PARTIAL BULKHEAD AND BY THE STOWAGE OF THE CABIN TABLE, WHEN NOT
IN USE.
IN THE MAIN CABIN THERE IS A V-SHAPED BERTH UPHOLSTERED IN LIGHT BLUE
WITH REVERSIBLE VINYL/FABRIC COVERED CUSHIONS, WITH SEA TOILET BELOW
AND STOWAGE SPACE UNDERNEATH EACH SIDE, APPROX 7.FT LONG, AND 6.FT
WIDE AT THE WIDEST, AND THE CABIN TABLE HAS A FURTHER FUNCTION OF
FILLING IN THE GAP TO FORM ONE LARGE “DOUBLE-PLUS” BERTH. MOUNTING
HOLES AND SUPPORTS ARE PROVIDED TO ENABLE THE ERECTION OF THE CABIN
TABLE, AND THERE IS SEATED HEADROOM FOR 2 PEOPLE EITHER SIDE OF THE
TABLE.
AT THE AFT END OF THE CABIN ON THE STARBOARD SIDE IS A STOWAGE SPACE
FOR A COOL BOX, AND PADDED RACKS FOR FLASKS, BOTTLES ETC. ABOVE THIS
STOWAGE IS A HINGED FLAP PROVIDING ACCESS TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ON
THE PORT SIDE THERE IS A SMALL SINK AND DOMESTIC WATER PUMP, AND A
SINGLE-BURNER GAS COOKER, WITH A STOWAGE DRAWER BELOW AND A STORAGE
SHELF ABOVE.
IN THE COCKPIT THERE ARE RACING-STYLE STANDING BOLSTERS FOR THE DRIVER
AND NAVIGATOR, WHICH HAVE PADDED TOPS THAT CAN BE USED AS SEATS IN
CALM WEATHER, AND WEBBING STRAPS BELOW THAT CAN BE USED TO SIT ON WHEN
DODGING WATER THAT MAY COME OVER THE WINDSCREEN, OR AS FOOTRESTS WHEN
SITTING ON THE TOPS OF THE BOLSTERS. ON THE BACKS OF THE BOLSTERS ARE
HANDRAILS FOR STANDING PASSENGERS AFT, AND ACCESS TO THE INTERIOR OF
THE BOLSTERS FOR STOWAGE.
ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD THERE ARE A SET OF RAILS USED
AS BOTH THE HANDRAIL FOR THE PASSENGER, AND AS STEPS FOR ACCESS ON TO
THE FOREDECK.
ABOVE THE CABIN DOORWAY, WHICH IS CLOSED OFF BY A ROLL-UP FABRIC DOOR,
ATTACHED WITH VELCRO, IS A STOWAGE COMPARTMENT IN WHICH IS HOUSED THE
RADIO THAT HAS WATERPROOF SPEAKERS LOCATED EITHER SIDE OF THE COCKPIT,
AND ABOVE WHICH IS THE BI-POD MAST THAT CARRIES THE V.H.F. AERIAL, AND
THE HORN, AND WHICH ALSO SERVES AS A HAND GRIP WHEN PASSING FROM
COCKPIT TO FORE-DECK.
IN THE CENTRE OF THE FLOOR IS A LIFT-UP SECTION GIVING ACCESS TO A WET
STOWAGE SUITABLE FOR A RUBBER DINGHY, WATER-SKIS, ETC.
EITHER SIDE THERE ARE CARPET-LINED STOWAGE POCKETS.
AT THE BACK OF THE COCKPIT THERE IS A FULL-WIDTH BENCH SEAT, UNDER
WHICH THERE IS STOWAGE SPACE FOR THE LIFTING STROPS, AND A 60-GALLON
(APPROX) FUEL TANK.
BEHIND THE COCKPIT IS A FULLY UPHOLSTERED SUNBATHING PLATFORM THAT
LIFTS UP TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE STOWAGE
COMPARTMENTS EITHER SIDE OF THE ENGINE.
